Alice's World

"Mir Ali" is a combination of genres, origins and influences. The first syllable of her Russian last name, “Mir” means “world”, “peace” or “universe,” whereas “Ali”, the first syllable of her first name, is her nickname in Spanish speaking countries where she digs for inspiration. In Spanish, taken literally, “Mira Ali” means “look at Ali”, which is often exclaimed by passerby’s during her impromptu shows at street corners or train stations.

            Alice’s musical world embodies her explorations through various cultures and continents. After 10 years living in the US and Canada, she quit her promising law school career to live off of her passion: music. The realization came in the form of a facial paralyisis while she was studying abroad in Argentina (a process which she describes in her first composition Wawudai). Armed with just her voice and a ukulele, she roams the streets of Argentina, busking for a living, in farmers’ markets, bars and terraces.

            Although her native language is French, all her songs are composed in English and Spanish, to reveal a more profound level of the psyche. Her voice and her guitar play the role of guides in healing woes, as she transcends musical frontiers of indie folk and latin pop: Rage and passion, lust for life and despair find echoes in her poetic texts, both introspective and universal.
